FIVE LAYER MEAL 1 LB. GROUND BEEF
1 TABLESPOON SHORTENING
1-1/2 TEASPOON SALT
1 TEASPOON CHILI POWDER OR TO TASTE
1/3 CUP UNCOOKED RICE
2/3 CUP CHOPPED ONION
2/3 CUP GREEN PEPPERS CHOPPED
2 LARGE WHITE POTATOES SLICED THIN
1 LB. CAN OF TOMATOES
1/3 CUP CATSUP
1/3 CUP WATER
BLACK PEPPER AS DESIRED
PLACE 1 TBSP. SHORTENING IN SKILLET. ADD GROUNG BEEF & ONIONS. BROWN. STIR FREQUENTLY, WHEN MEAT IS BROWN, ADD SALT, CHILI POWDER & PEPPER. REMOVE FROM SKILLET.
COVER BOTTOM OF THE FRY PAN WITH THIN POTATO SLICES.
SPRINKLE UNCOO9KED RICE EVENLY OVER POTATOES.
SPREAD BEEF MIXTURE ON TOP OF RICE.
SPRINKLE CHOPPED GREEN PEPPERS OVER BEEF MIXTURE.
ADD THE CAN OF TOMATOES.
ADD WATER TO CATSUP & POUR OVER MIXTURE. (DO NOT STIR)
PLACE LID ON PAN AND TURN HEAT ON HIGH TO BRING MIXTURE TO COOKING TEMPERATURE, WHEN STEAM ESCAPES FROM UNDER THE LID, TURN HEAT LOW AND COOK 1-1/2 HOURS.
CUT INTO SQUARES TO SERVE. EACH LAYER CAN BE IDENTIFIED.
SERVE WITH COLE SLAW & BREAD & BUTTER. |
