Note: The Native American Music Box Doll has a cavity in her back to hold the electronic music box. The electronic music box can also be used with the Indian half doll, instructions are included for a small pocket to hold the music box on the pillow base.

Dress (for both dolls)
Bodice: Starting at neck edge with tan and size G hook (or size required for gauge), ch 39.
ROW 1 (wrong side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch across (38 sc). Ch 1, turn. ROW 2: Sc in each sc across (38 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 3: Sc in first 5 sc, 2 sc in next 8 sc (for top of left sleeve, sc in next 12 sc, 2 sc in next 8 sc (for top of right sleeve), sc in last 5 sc (54 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 4 (Armhole Shaping): Sc in first 6 sc, ch 5, sk next 15 sc (for right armhole- fold skipped sts toward you), sc in next 12 sc, ch 5, sk next 15 sc (for left armhole- fold skipped sts toward you), sc in last 6 sc (24 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 4: Sc in each sc and ch across (34 sc). Ch 1, turn.

Skirt (continued): With neck edge of bodice and right side facing you, pick up dress at end of Rnd 23. With tan, ch 3, do not turn.
RNDS 24-29: Dc in each dc around, join (250 dc). Ch 3, do not turn. At end of Rnd 29, ch 1 (in place of ch 3), do not turn.
RND 30: Sc in each dc around, join to first sc (250 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RNDS 31-33: Sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (250 sc). Ch 1, do not turn at end of Rnd 33, ch 3 (in place of ch 1). Do not turn. (Note: Last 4 sc rnds will be used for trim.)
RND 34: Work 2 dc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join to top of beg ch-3 (500 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RNDS 35-40: Dc in each dc around, join (500 dc). Ch 3, do not turn. At end of Rnd 40, ch 1 (in place of ch 3), do not turn.
RND 41: Sc in each dc around, join to first sc (500 sc). Finish off, weave in ends.


Sleeves (make 2): With right side and skirt bottom facing you, join tan with sl st to 3rd ch (center) at underarm, ch 1.
RND 1: Sc in same ch as joining and next 2 chs, sc in next 15 sc (skipped sc from Bodice Row 4), sc in rem 2 chs at underarm, join to first sc (20 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RNDS 2-9: sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (20 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 10: Sc in same sc as joining, * dec over next 2 sc (to dec; draw up a lp in next 2 sts – 3 lps now on hook, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook), sc in next sc; rep from * around to last sc, sc in last sc, join (14 sc). Cut tan, join black, do not ch, do not turn.
RND 11 (Sleeve Trim): Continuing with black, sk joining sc, sl st in next sc and each rem sc around, join to first sl st, Finish off, weave in ends.


Dress Finishing
STEP 1: Turquoise Trim
Skirt: Holding turquoise yarn on wrong side of work at back skirt seam, sl st zigzag pattern around Skirt sc Rnds 19-22 and Skirt sc Rnds 30-33 as in Figure 1. (There will be 4 sl sts per side and 6 skipped sc between points.) Finish off, knot ends securely and trim close.
Neck: Holding turquoise yarn on wrong side at right back opening, sl st zigzag pattern across Bodice Rows 1 and 2 at neck as in Figure 2. (There will be 2 sl sts per side and 3 skipped sc between points.) Finish off, weave in ends.
Sleeves: Use turquoise and rep neck zigzag pattern around Sleeves Rnd 8 and 9 (beg at underarm seam). Finish off, knot ends securely and trim close.
STEP 2: Bronze Trim
Skirt: Holding bronze yarn on wrong side of work at back skirt seam, sl st bronze in pattern as shown in Fig. 1 (above turquoise zigzag on both sets of skirt sc rows- center 6 sl sts across zigzag points and 2 sl sts between points). Finish off, weave in ends.
Neck: Holding bronze yarn on wrong side at right back opening, sl st between Bodice Rows 2 and 3, just below turquoise zigzag (see Figure 2).
Sleeves: Holding bronze on wrong side of work at underarm seam, sl st around sleeves between Rnds 7 and 8 just above turquoise zigzag. Finish off, knot ends securely and trim close.
STEP 3- Black Trim
Skirt: Working as before, sl st black in pattern as shown in Figure 1, below turquoise zigzag on both sets of skirt sc rows (centering 6 sl sts across zigzag points and 2 sl sts between points). Finish off, weave in ends.
Neck: Join black to first ch at right back neck edge. Working as before, sl st black across beg chs at neck edge (just above turquoise zigzag), ending at left back neck edge (see Fig. 2). Finish off, weave in ends.
STEP 4: Sew 3 sets hooks and eyes to back bodice opening: one set at neck edge, one set at waist and one set half way between. Set dress aside.




SLIP (for standing Indian Doll only)
Starting at waist edge, with off-white, ch 30. Being careful not to twist ch, join to first ch to form a circle, ch 1.
RND 1 (right side): Sc in same ch as joining and each rem ch around, join with sl st to first sc (30 sc). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 2: Dc in same sc as joining and next sc, * 2 dc in next sc, dc in next 2 sc; rep from * around to last sc, 2 dc in last sc, join to top of beg ch-3 (40 dc- not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 3: * Dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around, join (50 dc- not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 4: * Dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around, join (60 dc- not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.

Slip Ruffle
RND 17: Work 2 trc in same sc as joining, * 3 trc in next sc, 2 trc in next sc; rep from * around to last sc, 3 trc in last sc, join to top of beg ch-4 (425 trc- not counting beg ch-4). Ch 4, do not turn.
RNDS 18-20: Trc in each trc around, join (425 trc). Ch 4, do not turn. At end of Rnd 20, ch 1, (in place of ch 3), do not turn.
RND 21: Sc in each trc around, join to first sc (425 sc). Finish off, weave in end.


Slip Finishing
Thread yarn needle with a 15-in. piece of off-white yarn. Starting and ending on right side of slip at center back seam, weave yarn through slip Rnd 1 (sc rnd). Place slip on doll. Pull yarn ends tightly to fit waist and tie into bow in back. Slip music box into opening in doll’s back. Place dress on doll.
Pillow Base (For Indian Pillow Doll only)
Pillow Top: Starting at waist edge, with off-white, ch 30. Being careful not to twist ch, join to first ch to form a circle, ch 1.
RNDS 1-16: Work same as Slip Rnds 1-16. At end of Rnd 16, ch 2 (in place of ch 4), do not turn.
RND 17: Working in back lp of sts for this rnd only (front lps will be used for pillow ruffle), hdc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join to top of beg ch-2 (170 dc). Finish off, do not turn.


Pillow Ruffle: With right side and waist edge of pillow top still facing you, join off-white with sl st to first lp left unworked from Pillow Top Rnd 17, ch 4.
RND 1: Work 2 trc in same lp as joining and each rem unworked lp around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-4 (340 trc- not counting beg ch-4). Ch 4, do not turn.
RNDS 2-3: Trc in each trc around, join (340 trc- not counting beg ch-4). Ch 4, do not turn. At end of Rnd 3, ch 1 (in place of ch 4), do not turn.
RND 4: Sc in each trc around, join to first sc. Finish off, weave in ends. Set pillow top aside.


Pillow Bottom: Starting at center of pillow bottom with off-white, ch 3.
RND 1 (right side): Work 10 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, join with sl st to top of beg ch-2 (10 hdc- not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 hdc in each hdc around, join (20 hdc- not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 3: * Hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (30 hdc- not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 4: * Hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (40 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.

Pillow Finishing
STEP 1: Thread yarn needle with a 15-in. piece of off-white yarn. Starting and ending on right side at center back seam (where rnds were joined), weave yarn through Pillow Top Rnd 1 (sc rnd). Position pillow top onto doll. Pull yarn ends tightly to fit doll’s waist and tie into bow in back.
STEP 2: Turn doll upside down. Hot glue first rnd of sc on pillow top to doll’s waist, slightly below navel. (Note: This step is necessary to keep pillow top from riding up after pillow is stuffed.)
STEP 3: Position pillow bottom in place, having right side of sts on outside of pillow. Carefully match back seams and sts around outer edge of pillow bottom with sts of Rnd 17 of pillow top (under ruffle). Thread sewing length left at end of pillow bottom into needle and sew pieces tog though both lps of matching sts 3/4 of the way around.
STEP 4: Firmly stuff front half of pillow with fiberfill.
STEP 5: Thread 2 yards of off-white into needle. Using 2 strands, leave 8-in. ends loose at bottom of pillow, draw needle and yarn through 4-hole button and first rnd at center of pillow bottom, next through lp at bottom of doll’s body, back down through first rnd of pillow bottom and 4-hole button. Leave ends loose at bottom of pillow.
STEP 6: Finish stuffing pillow and close rem seam.
STEP 7: Pull yarn ends at bottom of pillow with a medium tension and tie once at top of button. With needle, draw yarn ends through 2 rem holes of button and knot securely underneath button. Weave in ends, then shape top of pillow into a plump, well-rounded skirt, set pillow aside.


Music Box Pocket
(Use with Half Doll to hold a Music Box)
RND 1 (right side): Ch 4, work 12 dc under top 2 strands of 4th ch from hook, join in top of beg ch-3 (12 dc- not counting ch-3). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 2: Sc in same ch as joining, work (hdc, dc) in next dc, 2 dc in each of next 8 dc, work (dc, hdc) in next dc, sc in last 2 dc, join in beg sc (23 sts). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 3: Sl st in next hdc and dc (for top edge), ch 1, sc in next 17 dc (for round edge to be sewn to pillow later), sl st in next dc (leave rem 3 sts unworked), do not join. Finish off, leaving 18-in. sewing length.
Attach Pocket: Position pocket on pillow top at center back, having flat edge of pocket aligned between Rnds 1-2. Slip music box inside pocket. Holding music box and pocket in place, use overcast st and sew 17 sc around edge of pocket to pillow, leaving top flat edge of pocket open for inserting and removing music box. Weave in ends. Place dress on doll.


Belt
With bronze, leaving a 5-in. starting end (for stringing beads), ch 100. Finish off, leaving a 5-in. end (for stringing beads). Rep procedure with turquoise and with black (making 3 strands).


Belt Finishing
Thread one 5-in. end of any ch strand into a tapestry needle. String on pony beads as follows: 1 amber, 1 ivory, 1 turquoise, 1 ivory, 1 black. Push beads about 2 in. onto ch strand. Knot end of ch strand and thread 5-in. yarn end through knot and about 4 or 5 chs above knot. Trim yarn end close. Hot glue stem end of 1 pheasant feather onto bottom of ch strand, just above the knot. Pull beads down over stem end of feather to knot. Rep with other end of strand and with both ends of rem 2 strands. Twist 3 belt strands tog, place around waist and tie into a knot at left side.


Moccasins (make 2- for standing Indian Doll only)
(Note: Moccasins will fit over doll’s shoes.) Starting at center of sole with tan, ch 8.
RND 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 5 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Continuing around opposite side of beg ch row, sc in next 5 chs, 2 sc in last ch, join to first sc (16 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 sc in same sc as joining, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in last 2 sc, join (22 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 3-4: Sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (22 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 5: Working in back lp of sts for this rnd only (front lps will be used for bronze whip st trim), sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (22 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 6: Sc in same sc as joining and next 7 sc, (dec over next 2 sc) twice, sc in next 10 sc, join (20 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 7: Sc in same sc as joining and next 5 sc, (dec over next 2 sc) 3 times, sc in next 8 sc, join (17 sc). Finish off, do not turn.
(Note: You will now be working in rows instead of rnds.)
ROW: Sk same sc as joining and next 7 sc, rejoin tan with sl st to next (9th) sc, ch 1. Sc in same sc as joining and next 8 sc, sk joining sl st, sc in next 7 sc (18 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 9-13: Sc in each sc across (16 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 14: Working in back lp of sts for this rnd only (front lps will be used for fringe), sc in each sc across (16 sc). Finish off, weave in ends.


Moccasins Finishing
STEP 1: Thread a tapestry needle with a 12-in. piece of bronze yarn. Starting and ending at back seam, whip st in joining sl st and unworked lps around Moccasin Rnd 5. Pull ends to wrong side, knot securely and trim close.
STEP 2: Thread a tapestry needle with a 12-in. piece of bronze yarn. Starting at top front edge, whip st in both lps around moccasin top edge (Row 14). Weave in ends.
STEP 3: With turquoise, embroider a 6-point flower (*) to front toe just above Rnd 5 whip st. Tie ends in double knot on wrong side and trim close.
STEP 4: Cut sixteen 3-in. pieces of tan yarn. With moccasin top edge facing you, latch hook 1 piece to each unworked lp around Moccasin Rnd 14 (see Figure 3). Trim ends even.




STEP 5: Cut a 24-in. piece of bronze yarn. Latch hook center of yarn to skipped sc from Moccasin Row 8 at front opening above toe. Place moccasin on foot over shoe (discard sock) and lace yarn up front through every 2nd sc row. Tie yarn ends into a bow. Place a knot in yarn ends even with fringe ends. Trim ends below knot.


Headband and Necklace
Headband: With bronze, leaving a 5-in. starting end (for stringing beads), ch 80. Finish off, leaving a 5-in. end (for stringing beads). Rep procedure with turquoise and with black (making 3 strands).
Headband Finishing: Attach beads and feathers and weave in yarn ends same as for belt finishing. Set strands aside. Wrap bottom of braids tightly with small pieces of turquoise yarn. Knot ends and trim close. Twist 3 headband strands tog, place around top of head and tie once on right side.
Necklace: String 30 turquoise pony beads onto a 10-in. piece of bronze yarn. Place around neck, tie tightly into a double knot. Trim ends close.


Basket
Starting at center of basket, holding 1 strand of bronze and 1 strand of black tog, ch 2.
RND 1 (right side): Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to first sc (6 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (12 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 3: Sc in same sc as joining, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, join (18 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 4: Sc in same sc as joining and next sc, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, join (24 sc). Ch 1 do not turn.
RND 5: Sc in same sc as joining and next 2 sc, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * around to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, join (30 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 6: Sc in same sc as joining and next 3 sc, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * around, to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, join (36 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 7: Sc in same sc as joining and next sc, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc; rep from * around to last 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last 3 sc, join (42 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 8 (Handles): Sc in same sc as joining and next 7 sc, ch 10 (for one handle), sk next 4 sc, sc in next 17 sc, ch 10 (for other handle), sk next 4 sc, sc in last 9 sc, join (48 sc). Finish off black only. With bronze only, ch 1, do not turn.
RND 9 (reverse edge): Holding basket handles back out of the way, work reverse sc in each sc around (to reverse sc: working from left to right, insert hook from front to back in next sc to right of hook, yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook) (see Figure 4), join (48 reverse sc). Finish off weave in ends.
Basket Finishing: Raise doll’s arms to front- waist level. Place basket handles over wrists. Sew edge of basket to dress front, below necklace.




Corn (make 3)
(Note: First 3 rows will be worked wrong side out. Piece will then be turned right side out.)
Starting at front end of corn with yellow, leaving a 2-in. starting end, ch 2.
RND 1 (wrong side): Work 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to first sc (4 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 2: Sc in same sc as joining, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, join (6 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 3: Sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (6 sc). Thread needle with 2-in. starting end. Pull end through center hole and turn piece to right side, ch 1, turn.
RND 4 (right side): Sk joining sl st, * sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep form * once more, join (8 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RNDS 5-13: Sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (8 sc). Ch 1, do not turn. At end of Rnd 13, drop yellow, but do not cut. (Corn will be finished later.) Thread beg yarn to wrong side. Using back end of crochet hook, stuff corn with small pieces of fiberfill.
RND 14: Pick up yellow and dec over same sc as joining and next sc, (dec over next 2 sc) 3 times, join (4 sc). Finish off, weave in end.


Corn Husk (leaves) (make 3- each makes 2 leaves)
Starting at center of leaves with green, leaving a 10-in. starting end, ch 36. Finish off leaving a 10-in. end, do not turn.
First Leaf: Sk first 19 chs. Leaving a 5-in. starting end, rejoin green to next (20th) ch, ch 1. Sc in same ch as joining, * hdc in next 14 chs, sc in next ch (sc, ch 2, sc) in last ch. Continuing around opposite side of beg ch row, sc in next ch, hdc in next14 chs, sc in next ch, sl st in next 2 chs*.
Second Leaf: Continuing across beg ch row, sc in next ch, rep from * to * of First Leaf. Finish off, leaving a 5-in. end. Tie both 5-in. ends tog on wrong side.


Corn Husk Finishing
STEP 1: Fold 2 leaves back to back (wrong sides tog). Using 5-in. yarn ends, sew tog first 3 sts on each side of husk (forming husk bottom). Tie 2 ends tog in double knot at center of wrong side. Trim ends close.
STEP 2: Weave each 10-in. ch up through center of each leaf toward husk bottom, pulling ends gently to slightly curl leaf ends. Tie ends tog above first knot from Step 1. Trim ends close.
STEP 3: Hot glue corn inside husk with last dec row of corn toward husk bottom. Recurl ends of husk leaves back away from corn.
STEP 4: Arrange corn on basket with husk bottom to back and corn to front of basket. Hot glue in place.
